The one passion I have is taking portraits of characters who are either homeless or less fortunate than most. It's where my photography journey started more than 20 years ago. Characters of the street always catch my eye and I try and connect with them in some way. Sometimes it took years for the person to build up that trust with me and others were up for a photo as soon as they saw the camera.
Introducing David. He sells the big issue in Perth, Western Australia to make a few extra bucks. He lives in a tent and has a simple yet content life, he says. David was one of those characters that was up for a photo straight off the bat. We shot in an anti-fashion kind of style with some clothes from an Op-shop and Atlas Divine in Leederville, looking at the juxtapose of the two. As the weeks passed, I asked again if he would mind shooting in a studio to capture his portrait in a controlled environment. He was up for it. Here's a few images of David.
